James T. Thompson Fund
Mr. Thompson was a life-long resident of Jackson County who owned and operated Thompson Dairy, in Seymour. The fund was established by JoAnn Thompson in memory of her husband, James T. Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was an outstanding community member in many ways and was described as "one great guy-one who comes along only once in a while." He was a member of many services and community organizations. Among the boards he served were the Ivy Tech Board of Trustees, Hanover College Board of Trustees, Seymour Community Schools Board of Trustees. Mr. Thompson was the Seymour Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen in 1980.
He graduated from Shields Senior High School in 1940 and Culver Military Academy Summer School in the Black Horse Troop. A 1943 graduate of Purdue University he went directly into the military, artillery division. While in the army, he was a liaison pilot with the artillery and served under General Mark Clark as a lieutenant. After being honorably discharged, he was recalled to military service during the Korean War and sent to Germany.
Scholarships will be awarded to graduating students who are residents of Seymour and will attend Hanover College or Purdue University. General criteria will be used for selection of the recipient.
